The good news is that my husband bought not one, but two cases of that yummy red wine we both love (you know, the one I finished off while he was working like a slave on the ship). And, the bad news is that he is leaving Monday. I guess I will have to share (trade, hint, hint) some of those bottles with Sue, Jim and Shannon in exchange for some Canadian Maple Syrup when they visit me in July
Time once again has slipped by at rapid speed and between him cutting a lot of grass and me saving his ass from sliding down a cliff, I’d say that we’ve once again had another eventful and memorable few months. Coco has finally surrendered her favourite chair for “daddy” and I think she might even miss him a bit when he leaves. The last time he left, she sat at the doorway meowing for thirty minutes. I think the enormous Samsonite suitcase tipped her off that he wasn’t sneaking out to have a cigarette. She’s such a smart little fur-ball (okay, 5 kilos is not little, but it sounds cuter, no?).
When I think about all the things we packed into 8 weeks my head starts to spin. And this time we didn’t take our usual escape out of Genoa for a week either. We had an out of town wedding, a spa day, an overnight eating frenzy in Montalto and what seems like a gazillion lunches and dinners with family and friends. I think I have gained an extra 5 kilos on top of the 5 I already need to lose and it’s bikini weather, Eeeep!
I will now enjoy our last few days hanging out and do my best to put a dent in that big case of wine. Monday will come way too fast and tomorrow I am back in the city for work. Judging by my plans after he leaves, I think I may need some of that wine anyway.
Week one involves making day trips to Portofino. Why? Because we have a termite problem and I need to de-bug the doors and furniture without Coco here and I don’t really want to breathe all that crap in while I’m sleeping either. (Don’t worry Sue, they only eat wood so unless you are somehow related to Pinocchio, I think you’ll be fine).
Weeks two and three involve train rides to Arenzano every day to teach summer camp. Yep, that’s right shoot me now…oh wait, never mind I have a case of wine!
Weeks four onwards will have me and Coco back in Portofino. The house will be fresh and clean and termite free. I will work on my sunburn, garden and diet, yeah, I know, there’s always that second case of wine
One of my favourite songs is Time after Time, written by Cyndi Lauper.
Here is a snippet of the lyrics, which are so sweet. I really think the “if you fall I will catch you” part is ironic now.
Lyin’ in my bed I hear the clock tick and think of you…
If you fall, I will catch you, I’ll be waiting, time after time
Time after time.
